Yup

How depressing, but true. And yet there's something so satisfying and even rather darkly amusing about having someone else say it.

If a group called Muslim Jihad Warriors to Destroy the West set off a nuclear bomb and destroyed a city, Bob Schieffer would interview Lindsey Graham and Graham would say in his stupid sentimental voice, "Muslims have served in our armed forces, and some have died. These are good people," and Schieffer would add that of course Christians have done all kinds of terrible things, and they would both agree that it's crazy to blame Muslims for this, that such thoughts have no place in America.

  1. Tonight, 2 out of the 3 regular 10:00 news broadcasts reported that a Muslim woman in the suburb next to mine was in a grocery store when another woman made a comment to her about being a Muslim and then made reference to the Fort Hood killer being a Muslim. To add insult to injury, this antagonistic anti-Muslim person tugged at the victim's headscarf. This, to any thinking person, was the equivalent of being annoyingly interrupted by the neighborhood crank while shopping. It certainly did not warrant top billing even on a slow news night. I don't think we were the only family in the Chicago area rolling our eyes for the duration of the segment.

  2. Scraping the bottom of the barrel for incidents of "backlash," aren't they, Gina? The person who made that comment will be lucky if he isn't arrested. Or is he? It's probably a minor tort of some kind to tug on the head-dress, but in this day and age, if your state has "hate crimes" laws, a minor tort can send a person to jail with the additional punishment added for "hate" and "bias." Scary thought.
