They are easily overlooked otherwise, because one says, "It's just Kermit the Frog singing a schmaltzy 70's song." I mean, it _is_ Kermit the Frog singing a schmaltzy 70's song, but it's rather a pleasant surprise to find something that good in the middle of a schmaltzy 70's song sung by a frog.Lydia McGrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00423567323116960820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20704380.post-42489048078924337502013-10-15T14:19:48.312-04:002013-10-15T14:19:48.312-04:00I feel cheated somehow.....

You can imagine them as being any flavor you wish, since they're just e-cookies.

The song is "The Rainbow Connection," sung by Kermit the Frog in the opening scene of the original Muppet Movie, 1979.

I'd not heard it in about thirty years until someone reminded me of the movie the other evening. He was looking for it for his little girl.

The song is pretty much a pure instance of 1970's feel-good fluff, but in addition to a fetching tune, it has something else going for it, namely, some rather surprisingly good lyrics.

Here is the link to the movie. The song begins at about 4:30.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOHVSi65bPkLydia McGrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00423567323116960820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20704380.post-90779879261610124132013-10-14T17:46:42.092-04:002013-10-14T17:46:42.092-04:00Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog!Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog!Marienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20704380.post-14113343189360125802013-10-14T14:58:47.859-04:002013-10-14T14:58:47.859-04:00It's definitely post-WWII and definitely Ameri...It's definitely post-WWII and definitely American. I would say that "a voice calling the young sailor" is a literary trope that was already more than a little outdated at the time of the song itself, but it fit with the tone of the lyrics.Lydia McGrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00423567323116960820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20704380.post-9825987894535845862013-10-14T14:36:23.906-04:002013-10-14T14:36:23.906-04:00'That calls the young sailor?'
